Postponed: ‘Archipelagic Memory: Intersecting Geographies, Histories and Disciplines’ (University of Mauritius, NOW 2–5 August 2021)

Dear PSA members, colleagues and friends,

Due to the outbreak of the pandemic, the ensuing slowdown and uncertainties, and the strict sanitary measures taken by Mauritian authorities, we have postponed the conference ‘Archipelagic Memory: Intersecting Geographies, Histories and Disciplines’ to 2-5 August 2021.

We hope to make the best of the new, unexpected time at our disposal to broaden our conceptual agenda by highlighting the unique and timely contribution of the Humanities and Social Sciences to discussions on one of the major crises of our times – one that is shrinking our world to the status of islands and archipelagos.

In that spirit, we have invited a new keynote speaker, Professor Stef Craps (Ghent University) who works on cultural trauma and the environmental humanities, and we will be re-opening the call for papers later this year with a thematic strand on the impact of Covid-19 on conceptualisations of archipelagic memory.

So far, we have received excellent proposals from scholars working in different disciplines across the world that we are looking forward to including in our exciting programme of panel, plenary and keynote presentations as well as ancillary events.

And we are also delighted to announce that we have received the official support of the UNESCO Slave Route Project.
